Injection therapy with a balanced mixture of oxygen-ozone is indicated in hernias and disc protrusions, discopathies and radiculopathies cervical, dorsal, lumbar, in coccyx pain, in myofascial syndrome (fibromyalgia), fasciitis of the fascia lata and ileo band. tibial, in pain from osteoarticular pathology, coxarthrosis, gonarthrosis, arthrosynovitis knee, painful shoulder (rotator cuff tendinopathy…), carpal tunnel syndrome, snap finger, hand arthropathy, rhizarthrosis, painful pathology of the ankle, painful pathology of the foot (hallux valgus, capsulitis, bursitis, Morton’s neuroma, plantar fasciitis …), tendinopathies (De Quervain’s disease, epicondylitis, epitrocleitis, pathology Achilles tendon …), active trigger points (painful points). It has been hypothesized that the mechanism of action of infiltration with oxygen-ozone is achieved through a multifactorial action: muscle and trophic decontracting action, pain and inflammation reduction, with good therapeutic efficacy (75 – 80%). Different routes of administration of the gas mixture: injection into the muscle bundles (intramuscular technique) by bilateral / symmetric paravertebral injections at the level of the disc space affected by the hernia, of the roots involved and along tensions of the muscle bundles, perinervous injection (carpal tunnel, tunnel tarsal), periarticular injection (painful shoulder from rotator cuff tendinopathy, gonarthrosis, coxarthrosis …), peritendinous injection with technique (epicondylitis, epitrocleitis, De Quervain’s disease, yarrow tendinopathy, rhizarthrosis …),iniezione sottocutanea e/o intramuscolo nei punti dolorosi. The infiltration is performed, after careful disinfection, by inserting very thin, sterile disposable needles, then the gaseous mixture is injected safely and accurately, using special syringes and antibacterial filters, ensuring adequate asepsis and the purity of the injection gaseous. Several infiltrations are carried out with a frequency generally of two or three times a week, in some cases, infiltrations of recall-maintenance are recommended. The procedure is generally well tolerated by the patient, sometimes a temporary sensation of heaviness or transient burning (burning) pain can be felt, there is also the possibility of a short-term awakening of the painful symptoms. The risks associated with this procedure are those related to puncture (injection site hematoma) and vagal reactions (sweating, bradycardia, hypotension). Vagal seizures, usually transient, resolve spontaneously in a few minutes, otherwise it is necessary to resort to medical aids. The procedure is contraindicated in pregnancy, in patients with favism, untreated hyperthyroidism.

A NEW COMPLEMENTARY THERAPY AT VILLA BARBARANO: OXYGEN-OZONE SYSTEMIC THERAPY

For more than 10 years the Oxygen-Ozone Therapy service has been active in Villa Barbarano, in which osteo-myo-articular pathologies are treated, with particular reference to neck pain and lumbago of disc origin (protrusions or herniated discs).

However, there is another way of administering the Oxygen-Ozone Therapy mixture: the systemic one, which despite being known and practiced in the world for decades, has experienced an important development during the COVID-19 pandemic. This technique consists in the ozonation of a small amount of blood, about 100 cc, which produces important benefits, demonstrated in the literature, such as strengthening the immune system, restoring oxidative balance, anti-inflammatory, “revitalizing” action, etc.

This technique is particularly used as a complementary therapy in the Long COVID syndrome also called “POST ACUTE SEQUELAE OF SARS-COV-2 INFECTION (PASC)” and in the scientific studies performed, for example, an important improvement was recorded, (about 70% of cases) , of the symptom of fatigue that many patients suffer from after Covid.

The practice is safe and is performed scrupulously following the scientific protocol filed with the Ministry of Health, according to medical indication, and normally involves

4-8 sessions lasting 30 minutes, once or twice a week.

It is a path aimed at secondary cardiovascular prevention. The rehabilitation process is carried out on the basis of the cardiological clinical evaluation of the subject to program physical exercise according to an individualized rehabilitation program, defined by the specialist, for the achievement of objectives such as clinical stability, the optimization of drug therapy and the risk profile cardiovascular, the reduction of recurrences of cardiac events, the improvement of functional capacity and the optimization of the recovery of active life. In connection with the Rehabilitation Operational Unit, the service deals with prevention, diagnosis and rehabilitation of primary and acquired cognitive-linguistic pathologies. The main pathologies treated are sequelae of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, vascular and degenerative encephalopathies, Parkinson’s disease and parkinsonism, head injuries, ENT pathologies, aphasia, phonation disorders, swallowing disorders, attention deficit, apraxias, memory disorders , etc. Motor, neuropsychological rehabilitation, speech therapy rehabilitation and occupational rehabilitation path are foreseen, also in VRRS (augmented / immersive Virtual Reality) virtual environment, and in Telerehabilitation. The staff operates in a multidisciplinary perspective taking charge of the patient as a whole in a continuous and direct comparison between the various professional figures. The Dietician deals with the preparation of diets for: overweight and obesity; diets for hypercholesterolaemia, diabetes, hyperuricaemia, etc .; diets for underweight patients; balanced diets for vegetarians; food intolerance; diets on secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases. The processing of the personalized dietary program is carried out by the Medical Specialist: it begins with an interview to collect information on the general health of the patient and in particular on previous diseases, ongoing therapies, laboratory tests performed in the past, tendencies to family character. We try to understand if there are psychological problems. Then we enter the field of accurate food research to understand habitual food rhythms, taste preferences, practical needs of the subject. Finally, there is discussion about which most beneficial foods the patient would accept were included in his diet.
